Alabama Regulations for CBD Growing Clones & Seeds

When you decide to begin hemp farming here in Alabama, and even after you begin, the rules in your farm’s state are something you need to be aware of and follow. Some of the current laws here in Alabama define industrial hemp as parts of the hemp plant containing less than 0.3% THC, including derivatives, extracts, and cannabinoids (including, for example, CBD)–as laid out by the 2019 Farm Bill.

The Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries (ADAI) program launched shortly after this bill passed and  includes a process for issuing three types of hemp licenses: grower, processor/handler and university/research. All participants must apply for and receive a license in 2020 even if you already have a license from 2019. There is a $200 application fee and this fee is nonrefundable. Once approved for a license there is an additional $1,000 fee for each growing and processing/handling site.

Additionally, if you grow hemp for CBD or for industrial applications there are likely additional regulations around things like purchasing, receiving and planting  hemp seed. A great resource for Alabama hemp regulations is the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industry.

Regions of Alabama where CBD is Grown

CBD hemp plants are hardy and can grow in every state in the US But, there are areas in the US and even parts of Alabama that may be better for growing hemp. Alabama has great farmland.  When looking for the best counties to grow hemp, corn counties and cotton counties and areas are ones to look at.  Therefore counties in the north of Alabama like Jackson county, Limestone County and Colbert county are top corn producing counties and should work well for hemp.

The top cotton producing counties should work well too and therefore hemp growing counties extend to the south of Alabama in Baldwin and Covington counties. If you don’t see your county mentioned here, you likely still can grow hemp there too so check out the USDA site for more information about farming in Alabama.
